We recognize that many people feel both excited and also nervous at the idea of starting Jiu Jitsu. It is with that in mind that we are happy to introduce the Jiu Jitsu Fundamentals class to our Jiu Jitsu curriculum as the perfect first class to try. This class will emphasize specific movements essential to your development in Jiu Jitsu or any other grappling art. Participants will learn to move efficiently and safely both on the ground as well as on their feet; additionally the class will cover the transitions in between standing and ground work, such as various rolls, how to fall safely, and how to get back to your feet correctly. On top of learning essential movements, students will learn fundamental grappling concepts, self defense skills, and basic BJJ techniques. More experienced students will also benefit from this style of training by engraining their fundamentals in a class that will not include much (if any) sparring – a great way to hone in your skills without the more fatiguing training that is often a part of our other BJJ classes.
Students who own a gi (“kimono”) are encouraged to wear it during this class, however if you are new and do not own a gi yet, please feel free to participate without one. When training without a gi, please wear form fitting clothing without pockets, buttons, or zippers – see the No Gi pictures below for examples.
